Data Methodology

Bank Holiday Data Methodology

Transparency in how we compile, verify, and maintain bank holiday calendars for India. Our methodology ensures accuracy for planning banking transactions, branch visits, and fund transfers.

Primary Data Sources

Reserve Bank of India (RBI)

The RBI publishes official bank holiday calendars annually through circular notifications. These calendars list all negotiable instruments holidays observed by scheduled banks across India.

  • RBI Master Circulars on Bank Holidays
  • State-wise Holiday Schedules under Negotiable Instruments Act
  • Special Holiday Notifications and Amendments

State Banking Schedules

Regional holidays are compiled from state-specific banking schedules, as different states observe unique festivals and occasions as gazetted holidays.

  • State Government Holiday Notifications
  • Regional Banking Association Announcements
  • Local Festival Observances by Banks

Data Compilation Process

1

Initial Collection

We download official RBI holiday circulars and state banking schedules as soon as they are published, typically in December for the following year.

2

Data Extraction & Normalization

Holiday dates, names, applicable states, and notes are extracted and normalized into a structured format. Each holiday is tagged by type (national/state) and scope.

3

Cross-Verification

We cross-verify data against multiple official sources including major bank websites, government calendars, and previous years' patterns to ensure consistency.

4

Regional Validation

State-specific holidays are validated against regional banking association announcements and state government notifications to ensure local accuracy.

5

Continuous Monitoring

Throughout the year, we monitor RBI announcements for special holidays, amendments, or one-time closures and update our calendar accordingly.
